Region V Special Awards
GEOFF HARDAKER 0-9 ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD
Nominees: Rochelle King, Wyatt Horbury, Isaac Kennedy, Carter Robertson & Nicholas Foran
We hope that this little skier enjoyed racing at Region V, being always ready for the race on time and putting in their best effort.
We are sure he had enough fun to see him back next year and with skiing blood lines like he has, the family support and an older brother to keep chasing, there is no doubt he will keep improving.
THE WINNER OF THE
“GEOFF HARDAKER 0-9 ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD” IS
ROBBIE WOODS MOST IMPROVED UNDER 16 JUNIOR AWARD

Jack has shown great improvement throughout the season, gaining confidence in every race and finishing off the year with some nail bitting performances in the rough water, taking it to the best in the country.
Jack has proven at Region V this season, that he has the potential to become one of Region V’s finest juniors.

Going from someone last year, who was just having fun to this year, seriously racing and showing an unbelievably enormous improvement, to be a very worthy winner of this Award.
THE WINNER OF THE
“MOST IMPROVED FEMALE AWARD” IS
MOST IMPROVED MALE AWARD
Nominees Are: Brayden Jamison, Ray Ball, Matthew Robertson, Shaun Atkins, Dale Ashton, Stephen Wallace, Steven Robertson (Bub) & Dale Jamison Steven’s performances speak for themself this year, competing in a number of closely contested classes which has definitely contributed to his improvement, along with his obvious fitness and training.
He has shown that he is a force to be reckoned with in any type of water.
He comes from a good pedigree of ski racing boys, so no doubt if he chooses, the improvement will continue.
THE WINNER OF THE
“MOST IMPROVED MALE AWARD” IS
MOST OUTSANDING FEMALE AWARD
Nominees: Kristy Taylor, Kesley Feros & Trudi Stout There is no doubt that the winner of this award put the hard work in and continued her fantastic improvement from year to year, to be by far the most outstanding female at Region V this season.
After Women’s Open being dominated for the past ten consecutive years, one might ask whether this is the “Changing of the Guard” at Region V.
This young lady has raced at Region V for many years and this year has been outstanding in the classes that she has competed, displaying her natural ability and showing the amount of training she has put in, within a short period of time, since receiving her wish from Santa.
After all, this is the sort of stuff that you expect from a current World Champion…
THE WINNER OF THE
“MOST OUTSTANDING FEMALE AWARD” IS
MOST OUTSTANDING MALE AWARD
Nominees: Brian Turner, Ray Ball & Jack Houston Ray has continually improved by a great deal and year after year we have seen him step up, to this year be one of the fastest skiers in all water conditions that Region V has to offer.
Ray competed in four events winning one and placing in all three of the other Classes that he competed in, despite a devastating injury.
Ray is coming of age and has become a definite force in Men’s Ski Racing.
THE WINNER OF THE
“MOST OUTSTANDING MALE AWARD” IS
R- SOVER AWARD
Nominees: Brooke Gray, Andrew Precians, Stephen & Barry Robertson, Aaron Moller The Committee heard many a funny story in discussing the R-Sover Award this year, which made it a very hard decision.
While there were a couple of spectacular falls from the Start Boat, there was only one R-Sover witnessed by many of the crowd, one that was far more graceful than any other.
It is no mean feet for skier and observer to fall from the deck of the boat into the lovely thick Toukley mud and weed, whilst both fully suited up putting the ski on for the start of the race.
These guys over the years have achieved a lot in Ski Racing but for this stylish effort.
THE WINNER OF THE
“R-SOVER AWARD” IS
BOAT MOLE OF THE YEAR AWARD
Nominees: Nathan Tunks, David McMillan & Rob Williams David has proven to be a very consistent and courteous Boat Mole, faking his own boat problems to test drive other competitor’s boats.
Maybe this tactic is to enable him to make the best choice of a new boat, because he keeps wrecking his own, but he is always grateful to have the opportunity to use other people’s boats for his own fun.
THE WINNER OF THE
“BOAT MOLE OF THE YEAR AWARD” IS
THE WALLY CLEARMAN SPORTS PERSON AWARD
Nominees: Peter Rigg, John Robertson & Dale Jamison This is one of the hardest awards for the committee to decide every year, as there are so many people at Region V who are very deserving.
It is these types of people that make Region V what it is, but this year for that extra special effort of being there early to set the course, chasing runaway course buoys, generally being the one that was called on when something needed to be done, helping on the Rescue Boat and offering or being on hand for anything that needed doing – you could say he was the Race Chairman’s ‘Gofa’.
This young man has also shown that you can be a skier and still help out.
THE WINNER OF THE
“WALLY CLEARMAN SPORTS PERSON AWARD” IS
THE PRESIDENT’S AWARD
Marty Osborne – The Region V President presenting the 2009 President’s Award to John Robertson for his continued support and sponsorship of Region V of many years.
